The Government of India, through its nodal agency Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) under the Ministry of Textiles, has successfully procured 100 lakh bales of seed cotton during the 2024-25 season under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) operations, up to March 31, 2025.
This accounts for 38% of total cotton arrivals and 34% of the estimated total production in the country.
Telangana emerged as the top contributor with 40 lakh bales, followed by Maharashtra and Gujarat with 30 lakh and 14 lakh bales, respectively. Other states, including Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha, also recorded significant contributions.
Approximately Rs. 37,450 crore has been disbursed directly to the Aadhaar-linked accounts of 21 lakh farmers, ensuring transparency and efficiency. The CCI has established 508 procurement centers nationwide and leveraged digital tools such as Aadhaar authentication and the Cott-Ally mobile app to enhance the procurement process. Cotton bale traceability has been further strengthened using QR codes and blockchain technology.
This initiative reaffirms the government’s commitment to safeguarding farmers’ interests through a fair, transparent, and efficient procurement mechanism.
