Australia’s star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell announced on Tuesday that he will not enter the IPL 2026 auction, marking a pause in his illustrious journey with the league.
Maxwell, who was bought by the Punjab Kings for Rs 4.2 crore in the IPL 2025 auction, endured a disappointing season. He scored only 78 runs and took four wickets in nine matches before a middle finger fracture ruled him out midway through the tournament.
Since his IPL debut in 2012, Maxwell has been one of the most explosive overseas performers. His standout season came in 2014, when he smashed 542 runs. He followed that with consistent campaigns in 2017 (310 runs), 2021 (513), 2022 (301), and 2023 (400).
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Maxwell expressed gratitude for his IPL journey. “After many unforgettable seasons in the IPL, I’ve decided not to put my name in the auction this year. It’s a big call, and one made with a lot of gratitude for everything this league has given me,” he wrote. He added that the IPL shaped him as a cricketer and a person, allowing him to play alongside world-class teammates and perform in front of passionate fans.
