In a disturbing incident, six young women from Odisha’s Rajanagar area were allegedly harassed and verbally abused by a group of over 10 youths while returning from a sightseeing trip to Bhitarkanika National Park.
The victims filed a formal complaint at the Rajanagar police station around 8 PM on Wednesday, prompting immediate action from authorities.
According to the complaint, the group of girls, hailing from Endulapur village under Hatinapanchayat in Rajanagar thana, had visited the national park earlier in the day. They were travelling back on scooters and bikes along the Gupti-Rajanagar road when the incident occurred in a secluded spot away from Junupangara chowk. The accused, identified as Shatak Sethy—son of Bichitra Sethi from Bad Naukana village in Brahmansahi panchayat—and his accomplices, reportedly stopped the girls, used abusive language, and engaged in misconduct.
The victims detailed in their written complaint how the youths blocked their path and subjected them to inappropriate behaviour, creating a terrifying ordeal. Police, upon receiving the report, have treated the matter with utmost seriousness and initiated efforts to apprehend the suspects. A case has been registered at Rajanagar police station, and investigations are underway to gather evidence and identify all involved parties.
This event has caused widespread concern in the local community, highlighting growing worries about women’s safety on rural roads in the area. Authorities have assured that the culprits will be brought to book soon.
