Nuapada Police achieved a major breakthrough after Jonk Police raided an illegal gambling den and arrested 22 gamblers.
The operation followed a tip-off about ongoing illegal gambling activities in the area.
Led by SI Bishnu Prasad Pradhan, the police team conducted the raid around 10:10 p.m. at Ramchandrapur in Jonk. Two accused, Dadu Khan of Khariar Road and Raju Khan of Nuapada, fled the scene, while the rest were apprehended. Police seized Rs 3,56,055 in cash, 19 mobile phones, six motorcycles, and four packets of new playing cards.
District SP Amritpal Singh, Additional SP Ranjit Nayak, DSP Swadhin Mishra, and IIC Pradeep Kumar Dharua shared details of the operation at a press briefing. The arrested individuals include residents from Nuapada, Balangir, and Mahasamund districts, many of whom have prior criminal records.
Police registered Case No. 182 dated June 3, 2026, under Sections 111(4)/112(2) of the BNSS and Section 3 of the OPG Act. Officials confirmed that several accused, including Ashok Bhoi, Jagannath Meher, Dhalendra Sahu, Mohammad Wasim, and Moin Khan, have previous gambling and criminal cases.
