Jharsuguda Police achieved a major breakthrough by arresting a murder accused who had been on the run for 28 years.
The man originally faced charges under Sections 364, 302, 201, 109, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. He escaped police custody in 1998 while still in handcuffs during transit and remained untraceable ever since.
Investigators revealed that the accused changed his identity to Raju Gonda and settled in Raigarh. He obtained Aadhaar and PAN cards under the assumed name to conceal his past and avoid detection.
Police launched sustained intelligence operations and carried out meticulous verification to track him down. After persistent follow-up, the team finally arrested him and produced him before the competent court.
Officials said the arrest demonstrates the determination of Jharsuguda Police to deliver justice regardless of time. The case highlights how fugitives cannot escape accountability and will eventually face the law.
