The Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) is preparing to launch its own chocolate brand alongside packaged drinking water under its label.

This announcement marks a bold leap into new markets to increase brand presence and create value addition for its products.

OMFED plans to establish a dedicated chocolate manufacturing facility, with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) tasked with preparing the detailed project report (DPR). Once finalized, the proposal will be submitted to the Odisha government for capital investment. Meanwhile, the packaged drinking water is expected to hit the shelves within the next four months, offering consumers a reliable new option.

The federation, currently procuring 5.5 lakh liters of milk daily from around 2.5 lakh dairy farmers, has set an ambitious target to double this collection to 10 lakh liters per day within the next year. Additionally, ghee production, currently at 120 tons per month, is set to increase further to meet growing demand, including requirements from prominent temples such as the Jagannath Temple in Puri.

These initiatives aim to not only diversify OMFED’s portfolio but also provide robust support to rural dairy farmers in Odisha, bolstering the state’s dairy sector significantly.
