Berhampur: A Special POCSO Court in Berhampur today sentenced four youths to 20 years in prison for raping a minor girl in 2018.
According to the case, the four youths had raped a minor girl in a cashew forest under Tarasingh police station in the Bhanjanagar area of Ganjam district in 2018. On the basis of the complaint, the police registered a case (27/18) and arrested four youths.
Today, the Special POCSO Court Judge Ganeshwar Pati, after taking into account the statements of 14 witnesses in the case, handed down 20 years of jail term each to the four youths— Kalu Nayak, Ravi Nayak, Babu Behera and Gaur Nayak.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on each. In default of payment of the fine, the convicts shall undergo another three months of jail term for the offence, the court ruled.
Further, the court has directed the District Legal Service Authority to provide Rs 5 lakh to the minor as compensation. Special POCSO Court PP Mohan Sinhari handled the case while Anirudh Muduli investigated the case.
