One of the five infant orangutans rescued earlier this month and brought to Nandankanan Zoological Park has developed a fever, prompting veterinarians to intensify monitoring and treatment.
Zoo officials said the animal’s body temperature has remained higher than normal despite supportive care. “The temperature of one of the animals is not showing signs of returning to normal. Our veterinarians are making all efforts to stabilise and maintain its temperature,” a zoo official stated.
The infant orangutan is under round‑the‑clock observation, with its temperature checked at regular intervals and supportive treatment administered.
Meanwhile, the remaining four orangutans are healthy and responding well to care. All five were rescued from Baleshwar on September 8 and have been under continuous veterinary supervision since their arrival.
The zoo’s veterinary team and animal‑care staff continue to provide intensive care as search and rescue authorities monitor the rare case.
