A devastating road accident near Pandaren village under Turekela police limits in Bolangir district claimed four lives, including a six-year-old child and three members of the same family.
The victims were identified as Kshira Putel (55), his wife Kuni Putel, their grandson Debashish (6), and a relative, Mohan Putel. The family had travelled to Dhourakhman village to visit relatives. On their way back around 5:30 pm, an unidentified vehicle rammed into them near Pandaren.
Kshira and Debashish died on the spot, while Kuni and Mohan were rushed to Kantabanji hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, both succumbed to injuries during treatment.
Police launched an investigation immediately, checking CCTV footage from nearby areas. They later traced and seized the Bolero pickup suspected of causing the accident from Pipalbahl village in Lathor. The driver fled the scene and remains at large.
Turekela police registered Case No. 24/2026 and assured that the driver will be arrested soon. The incident has left the local community in shock, with grieving relatives gathering at Kantabanji hospital.
