Angul: Police have arrested four persons for allegedly duping a youth of Rs 5 lakhs on the pretext of providing him job at a power plant in Angul district.
The arrestees have been identified as Paramananda Behera and Pritam Behera of Chainpal, and Bijaya Sahu and Jhasketan Sahu of Kandsar.
As per reports, Kartika Rout of Badadanda Sahi in Talcher, a Diploma in electrical engineering, contacted Jhasketan of Nalco after knowing that the latter was arranging employment for jobless engineers at a power plant. After contacting him, Rout was asked to hand over Rs 5 lakh for the job at South Balanda.
Later, in July 2020 he agreed to hand over the sum of money to the scammer. After a week, Rout received an appointment letter and a duty order through email. However, later he came to know that both letters were fake.
With no options left, Rout lodged a complaint of defrauding with the Colliery police station at Handidhuan.
On the basis of the complaint, police registered a case and arrested the four accused under Sections 120-B, 420, 467, 468, and 471 of the IPC and forwarded them to the court, sources said.
