The Capital Police in Bhubaneswar arrested four individuals on charges related to an egg-throwing incident at the official residence of Odisha’s Higher Education Minister, Suryabanshi Suraj, on July 15, 2025.

The accused, identified as Aditya Pritam Das, Saumyarajan Jena, Shubhankar Sethi, and Balaram Sahu, all hailing from Badagada village, were booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Odisha Urban Police (OUP) Act.

According to police reports, at approximately 7 PM on July 15, a group of 8 to 10 members from a specific organisation gathered outside the minister’s residence, chanting slogans. Despite warnings from the police that the area was a restricted zone for protests, the group attempted to forcibly enter the premises. They hurled eggs, tomatoes, and stones at the residence, intimidating staff and others present. When police intervened, the protesters clashed with officers, verbally abused them, and obstructed their duties, resulting in minor injuries to two police personnel.

The Capital Police registered a case (No. 328/25) under BNS sections 191(2), 191(3), 62, 331(5), 296, 115(2), 121(1), 132, 125, 351(2), 100, and Section 96 of the OUP Act. The accused were arrested and presented before a court. During interrogation, they confessed to their actions. Notably, Aditya Pritam Das has a history of criminal involvement, with four prior cases registered against him in various police stations, including Capital, Shahid Nagar, Kharavela Nagar, and Kendrapara.

The investigation remains ongoing, with the police probing the motives behind the incident and potential links to organised groups. Authorities have assured strict action against those disrupting public order.
