Bijaya Laxmi Marandi, Former Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), Sinapalli Block, Nuapada district, was convicted today by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhawanipatna.

She was charged under the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act, 1988, for demanding and accepting a ₹10,000 bribe to facilitate the passing of bills and payment for the supply of Chhatua.

The court sentenced her to three years of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹20,000. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six months of imprisonment.

Smt. Marandi, who was serving as CDPO in Parjang Block, Dhenkanal district, at the time of her conviction, now faces the prospect of dismissal from service, as Odisha Vigilance has decided to move the competent authority for her removal.

This conviction is a notable step in Odisha Vigilance’s ongoing efforts to ensure accountability and transparency in governance, sending a strong message against corruption in public service.
