A Vigilance Court in Baripada today, 27 November 2025, convicted Gourahari Patra, former Junior Grade Despatcher of the office of the Superintending Engineer, Irrigation Circle, Baripada, in a corruption and misappropriation case.
Patra, now retired, was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(c)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with Sections 468, 420, 471, and 409 of the Indian Penal Code.
The investigation established that Patra misappropriated government funds by preparing false treasury challans and fabricating rubber seals of bank officials. The Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹20,000.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance will initiate the process with the competent authority to stop Patra’s pension in accordance with service and pension rules. A detailed report is expected to follow.
