Odisha could soon be home to cutting-edge flash-charging electric buses, offering a fast, eco-friendly, and luxurious travel experience between Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Puri.
The initiative, proposed by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, aims to revolutionize intercity public transport with a touch of innovation.
Charging in 30 Seconds
These state-of-the-art electric buses are equipped with 600 kW overhead flash chargers that can fully recharge a bus in less than 30 seconds at designated stops. The automatic system activates upon the bus’s arrival, reducing idle time and enhancing efficiency.
Luxury Meets Sustainability
Set to be piloted in Nagpur, Maharashtra, the 18-meter-long buses promise flight-like luxury on wheels. Passengers can look forward to executive-class seating, personal TV screens, air conditioning, laptop trays, charging points, and refreshments—all designed to bring a premium travel experience to Indian roads.
Affordable and Eco-Friendly
Besides comfort, these buses aim to be 30% more cost-effective than traditional diesel-run buses, making them an economical choice for regular commuters and tourists alike. The electric drive also aligns with India’s clean energy goals, offering zero-emission travel across the popular Twin City–Puri corridor.
If the Nagpur pilot project succeeds, Odisha could soon see its own fleet of flash-charging buses—redefining daily commutes and tourist travel between the capital region and one of India’s most sacred destinations.
