The Rourkela Forest Division has achieved a significant breakthrough in a wildlife crime case, arresting five individuals on charges of illegal wild boar hunting.

According to official sources, the incident took place near the Hatibandha forest area of Kansar village during the Maha Shivaratri period. Acting on specific information, forest officials conducted a raid at the residence of one of the accused in Kansar village.

Meat, Skin and Hunting Weapons Seized

During the search operation, officials recovered wild boar meat, animal skin, hunting tools, and other weapons allegedly used in the poaching activity. The seized materials have been taken into custody as evidence.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Fateh Singh, Pankaj Kumar Singh, Bitan Singh, Dukhbandhu Singh, and Pradeep Singh.

Forest authorities confirmed that the accused have been produced before the court under various sections of the Wildlife Protection Act.

Further Investigation Underway

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Yashobant Sethi stated that strict action is being taken against those involved in wildlife crimes. He added that investigations are ongoing to determine whether more individuals were involved in the illegal hunting activity.

Officials reiterated their commitment to protecting wildlife and maintaining ecological balance in forest areas around Rourkela.

Crackdown on Wildlife Crime in Odisha

The latest arrests highlight intensified efforts by the Odisha Forest Department to curb poaching and illegal wildlife trade. Authorities have urged residents to report suspicious activities and cooperate in preserving biodiversity and protecting protected species.

Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
