The redevelopment of Bhubaneswar Railway Station is progressing steadily, with the first phase set to wrap up by October 2025, according to updates from the Ministry of Railways.
The project, covering both the eastern and western sides of the station, is moving ahead as scheduled.
Construction Update
On the eastern side (Cuttack Road-facing), the three-storey building has been fully constructed. Meanwhile, construction on the western side near Master Canteen has reached the fourth floor of a planned eleven-storey structure. Interior development is currently underway.
Project Cost & Infrastructure
With a total budget of ₹398 crore, the upgraded station will feature amenities on par with international airports. A key element of the plan is a 108-metre-long air concourse above the platforms, designed to link both sides of the station. Roof work for this section is progressing swiftly.
Enhanced Passenger Experience
The spacious concourse will have the capacity to handle over 1,000 passengers, offering seating, lounges, and advanced amenities. Once complete, the station is expected to serve up to 1 lakh passengers daily, up from its current handling capacity of 77,000.
To support safe and efficient movement, wider foot overbridges are being constructed. The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has also greenlit the construction of elevated driveways and access roads near the Master Canteen side, with groundwork already in motion.
Integrated Development Model
The East Coast Railway, working in tandem with the BDA, is leading this transformation. Their joint efforts include developing commercial areas and parking infrastructure to ensure better use of land and provide improved passenger services.
