A firecracker explosion during a wedding celebration in Bhubaneswar’s Khandagiri area left three people critically injured late Saturday night.
Witnesses reported that leftover unexploded firecrackers caught fire and triggered a sudden blast. The explosion severely injured a young man, burning his face and hands, while two minors sustained serious burns on different parts of their bodies. Family members and guests rushed the victims to Capital Hospital, where doctors confirmed their condition as critical.
The accident occurred when decorative lighting was underway at the wedding venue. Some firecrackers failed to ignite earlier and remained scattered. Later, sparks from nearby lights ignited the unexploded crackers, causing the blast. Panic spread among guests as flames and smoke engulfed the area.
Doctors at Capital Hospital continue treatment for the injured. Police from Khandagiri station reached the spot and began an investigation. Officials have not yet released an official statement.
Residents expressed concern over the growing number of firecracker-related accidents during weddings and festivals. Despite the tradition of bursting crackers, safety lapses often result in tragic incidents. Authorities may call for stricter monitoring to prevent similar accidents in the future.
