Proposing surrounded by lions in the wild sounds like a high-budget movie scene, but for actor Ranbir Kapoor, it was a real-life moment he will cherish forever.
Appearing alongside his Ramayana team—including co-stars Sai Pallavi and Ravie Dubey, director Nitesh Tiwari, and producer Namit Malhotra—on Kaun Banega Crorepati 18, Ranbir shared the story of how he proposed to wife Alia Bhatt during their trip to Kenya’s Maasai Mara.
The Maasai Mara Proposal
During a chat with host Amitabh Bachchan for the upcoming Diwali special episode, Ranbir revealed how he covertly coordinated with their guide and driver to stop in the middle of the jungle.
”I had already told my guide, who was also our driver, to stop somewhere in the middle of the jungle. I had brought a ring with me, as I planned to get down on one knee, while he took photographs from a distance. Because girls love taking photographs and posting them on Instagram,” Ranbir shared.
Reacting to the meticulous plan, Amitabh Bachchan playfully remarked, “Proof to hona chahiye” (There should be proof).
‘Three Lions on One Side, My Lioness in Front’
Describing the actual moment he went down on one knee, Ranbir humorously compared the dynamic between himself, Alia, and the surrounding wildlife:
”Teen babbar sher is taraf the, kuch 100 meter par, aur meri sherni mere aage khadi thi aur main chuha ban kar apne ghutnon par khada tha ki, ‘Baby, Will you marry me?’ It was a very, very wonderful moment of my life that I will always remember,” Ranbir recalled.
Praising the actor’s efforts, Big B applauded the romantic gesture with a cheerful “Well done”.
Relationship Timeline and Ramayana Premiere
Ranbir and Alia began dating in 2018 while filming Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmāstra. Following the Maasai Mara proposal, the couple married in an intimate ceremony at their Mumbai residence on April 14, 2022, and welcomed their daughter, Raha Kapoor, in November 2022.
The KBC 18 special episode is scheduled to air on SonyTV and stream on SonyLIV. Meanwhile, Nitesh Tiwari’s epic adaptation Ramayana—starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama alongside Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol, and Yash—is slated for a two-part theatrical release, with Part 1 arriving worldwide on November 5, 2026.
