The Cyber Crime Investigation Unit of Commissionerate Police has successfully busted a fake online gaming scam involving the impersonation of a Chinese gaming website, WINBUZZ365, used to defraud individuals.
The accused lured victims into joining WhatsApp and Telegram groups, promising high returns on gaming investments. Participants were asked to deposit money via UPI payments using QR codes, but once the funds were transferred, the victim’s accounts were blocked, denying them access to their invested money, the police said.
Following an extensive investigation, four individuals were detained: two from Delhi, one from Hyderabad, and one from Gujarat, including the ringleader from Prestige Apartment, F Block, 602, Sundarpada near Botonada within Airfield PS of BBSR UPD.
During the operation, the authorities seized 20 smart phones, 2 personal computers, 1 laptop, CCTV systems, multiple debit cards, a router, Wi-Fi equipment, 3 passports, ₹.18,700 in Indian currency, and foreign cash.
The investigation is going on towards tracing further links to the scam and recovery. Citizens are urged to exercise caution while engaging with unverified online platforms and report any suspicious activities to the cybercrime unit.
