Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) today seized three tusks of elephants during a raid at Kabatbandha Chhak near Brahmani Bridge under Jajpur district.
Acting to reliable inputs about a deal of sale of elephant tusks by wildlife criminals today morning, the STF team conducted a raid the place and apprehended three persons.
The accused were identified as Pitabas Barik of Keonjhar’s Bhagabanpur, Ananda Mohakud of Keonjhar’s Badbil. and Ambuja Pradhan of Jajpur’s Kabatbandha.
Three numbers of elephant tusk and other incriminating materials were seized from their possession. The accused persons could not produce any valid authority in support of the possession of such elephant tusks, for which he has been arrested and is being forwarded to the Court of JMFC, Chandikhol.
In this connection, STF PS Case No.07 dated 12.02.2021 U/s. 379/411 IPC r/w. 51 of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 was registered. The seized elephant tusks will be sent to Wild Life Institute of India, Dehradun for chemical examination. The investigation is on, the police said.
