Dhenkanal: A wild elephant trampled a local of Gahamakhunti village under Dhenkanal Sadar Range to death late on Tuesday night. The deceased has been identified as Ramesh Sahu.
According to reports, Sahu had gone to his vegetable garden when came across a pachyderm. Even before he could make any move to escape, the elephant trampled him to death.
On being informed, forest department officials reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, locals demanded compensation for the family members of the deceased. They also urged the forest department officials for the tranquilisation of the tusker.
