An elderly couple sustained serious injuries after their house suddenly collapsed in Basuput village under Mastiput Panchayat in Koraput district.
The incident occurred on Monday evening while the couple was resting inside their home.
According to sources, Madhu Kumar and his wife Bhagabati Kumar were trapped under the debris when their house caved in unexpectedly. Alert villagers rushed to the spot and rescued both individuals, immediately shifting them to Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput.
Madhu Kumar was critically injured, while his wife suffered minor injuries. As of Tuesday morning, Madhu’s condition has shown slight improvement, and Bhagabati is reported to be stable.
The couple belongs to an economically disadvantaged family, prompting villagers to request government assistance for their recovery and rehabilitation.
Local authorities are expected to assess the damage and provide necessary support under disaster relief provisions.
