Bhubaneswar: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned former Odisha minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Prafulla Samal and his son Prayaskanti Samal on Saturday over alleged money laundering.
The father-son duo was summoned in the alleged Barapada Engineering College land scam case. They have been asked to appear with all the relevant documents.
Summons were issued after the ED raided the premises of the senior politician and his son over money laundering allegations.
The ED carried out search operations at 10 locations in Bhadrak and Bhubaneswar cities of Odisha on 15.02.2024 under the provisions of PMLA, 2002 belonging to Prayaskanti Samal (ex-President), Manoj Kumar Goswami (Secretary) and others of Barapada School of Engineering and Technology (BSET) society in the matter of misappropriation of society money by forgery and cheating.
During the search operations, various incriminating documents, digital devices, Cash of Rs. 9 Lakhs, undated cheques, land agreements and a Toyota Fortuner Car worth Rs. 40 lakhs approx were recovered and seized.
The raids were conducted at six places in Bhadrak and four in Bhubaneswar on Thursday, in connection with alleged financial irregularities to the tune of Rs 20 crore at Bhadrak Institute of Engineering and Technology (BIET) at Barapada.
Prayaskanti, who is the president of BIET, is accused of swindling the fees paid by students and investing the money to buy properties worth crores of rupees in Bhubaneswar and other places.
The vehicle, however, is registered in the name of Trishna Skyscraper Limited, a construction company, reports said on Friday.
It has been alleged that the Minister and his son Prayaskanti Samal are involved in a multi-crore scam involving Barapada Engineering College where the father-son duo has allegedly swindled crores of rupees collected from students as fees to buy lands and flats in Bhubaneswar and other places.
