The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Chaitanya Baghel, the son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, in connection with an alleged liquor scam.
The summons are set for March 15, a day after the ED conducted raids at 14 locations in Durg district, including the premises of Bhupesh Baghel and his son.
During the eight-hour raid, the ED, accompanied by a team from the CRPF, seized electronic gadgets, documents, and around Rs 30 lakh. The Bhillai accommodation that was raided is shared by Chaitanya with his father.
Bhupesh Baghel has accused the BJP-led Centre of using the ED as a tool for political vendetta against the opposition. He claimed that the ED officials arrived at his residence without providing the ECIR number, akin to an FIR, and criticized the use of a cash-counting machine as a media stunt.
“Cash has been recovered as we have a lot of land and jewelry. Rs 30 lakh has been recovered from the house, for which the machines were also brought to create a media hype. I don’t think it’s a huge amount,” said Bhupesh Baghel.
The investigation continues as the ED delves deeper into the alleged money laundering case involving the liquor scam.
