East Coast Railway (ECoR) has expanded its clean energy footprint, reaching a total installed solar capacity of 486.84 kWp across its operational divisions to boost sustainability and reduce carbon emissions.
The installed capacity spans three main divisions: Khurda Road leads with 326.84 kWp, followed by Sambalpur Division with 150 kWp and Rayagada Division with 10 kWp. In addition, rooftop solar installations have been successfully commissioned across 232 railway stations—comprising 110 stations in Khurda Road, 68 in Sambalpur, and 54 in Rayagada.
The solar network is delivering significant environmental and economic returns. During the 2026–27 financial year (up to August 2026), ECoR recorded 67,02,707.98 units of clean power generation. This increased reliance on renewable power reduced conventional electricity grid dependency and yielded financial savings of approximately ₹4.51 crore.
ECoR plans to further expand solar infrastructure across offices, workshops, and stations, aligning with Indian Railways’ vision for net-zero carbon operations and long-term environmental sustainability.
