Chandabali in Bhadrak district remains tense after the abduction, rape, and murder of a 10‑year‑old girl. The horrific crime ignited outrage, and furious locals demolished the accused’s house in Rampalli village.
Meanwhile, Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida condemned the incident and vowed the strictest action. “Police are arresting the accused swiftly in such cases. Incidents like this must never recur in society. Responsibility lies not only with the government but also with the community,” she said. In addition, Parida confirmed that the State Women’s Commission will conduct a judicial inquiry.
The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the Congress have announced a Chandabali bandh to be observed tomorrow. The bandh will take place across the entire Chandabali block from 6 am to 12 noon, reflecting the growing political and public pressure in the region. The announcement was made by local MLA Byomkesh Ray and Congress leader Digambar Das.
The crime unfolded on Tuesday morning when the minor went missing in Rampalli. Later that evening, villagers discovered her body behind the Panchayat office in Baligaon, showing unmistakable signs of sexual assault and brutal killing.
Consequently, anger spread like wildfire. Villagers blocked roads at Baligaon Square on the Akhandalamani route, set effigies ablaze, and demanded justice. By Wednesday, once the accused was identified, mobs stormed his residence and reduced it to rubble.
Furthermore, police moved quickly and arrested the accused within 24 hours. Bhadrak Superintendent of Police personally supervised heavy deployment at the site to prevent further unrest.
