A shocking incident of drunk driving led to a chain of collisions near the Unit-2 petrol pump in Bhubaneswar on Sunday, leaving three people grievously injured and raising renewed concerns over urban road safety.
According to eyewitnesses, the sequence of crashes began when a speeding car rammed into an auto-rickshaw from behind. The driver, believed to be intoxicated, lost control of the vehicle, triggering a cascade of further accidents involving two more cars and multiple roadside vehicles.
The situation escalated when another car crashed through the gate of a nearby government quarter, causing panic among residents as it ploughed into house premises.
The three injured were rushed to a nearby hospital and are reported to be in critical condition.
The police have detained the primary driver and launched a full investigation into the cause of the incident, including verifying drunken driving, overspeeding, and negligence.
