One person was killed while 6 others sustained injuries after a vehicle carrying a wedding party overturned on National Highway 26 near Chiliguda village under Kokasara police station limits in Kalahandi district.
The mishap claimed the life of the driver, Bhajan Kar, a resident of Baragaon under Junagarh police station, and left six others seriously injured.
The injured, identified as Subash Khamari, Babilu Harijan, Sumanta Kar, Dharmaraj Kar, Arup Khamari, and Tofan Sunani, were initially rushed to Kokasara Hospital with the help of locals and fire department personnel. They were later shifted to Kalahandi district headquarters hospital for advanced treatment.
The wedding party was returning from Kirandul in Chhattisgarh when the vehicle lost control and overturned. Authorities at the Kokasara police station have initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident.
The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the families of the victims and highlighted the need for increased road safety measures in the region.
