A newly formed umbrella platform, ‘People Against SIR’, has invited prominent public figures—including Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke, student leaders Neha Bora and Aishe Ghosh, economist Parakala Prabhakar, actor-activist Prakash Raj, and farmer leader Rakesh Tikait—to a nationwide ‘People’s March’ scheduled for Friday.
Organizers announced that the rally will proceed without seeking official police permission, intensifying the ongoing standoff between civil society groups and security forces in the national capital.
The march in New Delhi is set to begin near Bangla Sahib Gurdwara in Connaught Place and proceed toward the Election Commission of India’s headquarters at Nirman Bhawan/Patel Chowk. Protesters are demanding the immediate resignation and prosecution of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, alongside the complete scrapping of the controversial Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Organizers confirmed that if blocked by law enforcement, the demonstrators will convene a “People’s Parliament” on the spot before peacefully dispersing after singing the national anthem. The development comes on the heels of major detentions earlier this month, where key protest leaders were temporarily taken into custody under stringent police clampdowns.
