India is set to roll out the second phase of its landmark Census 2026 starting January 10, marking a major milestone as the country conducts its first-ever fully digital population count.
Under the Phase 2 roadmap, citizens will have a 15-day window to log into an official portal or mobile application to fill in their demographic details directly through self-enumeration.
Following this initial digital drive, enumerators will carry out door-to-door visits from January 25 to February 28 to gather information from households across the nation.
This comprehensive phase features 40 detailed questions covering crucial socioeconomic indicators, including education levels, healthcare access, employment status, and caste details.
Staff training programs will continue through December to ensure smooth execution, with the central government targeting complete data collection by April.
The digital-first framework aims to streamline data entry, minimise errors, and significantly reduce processing timelines for national demographic records.
