At the Mumbai trailer launch of Aanand L Rai’s upcoming Hindi film Tere Ishk Mein, actors Dhanush and Kriti Sanon were asked about their views on love.
The question drew a moment of hesitation from both stars. Dhanush, however, eventually responded with a remark that surprised many, calling love “an overrated emotion.”
Dhanush’s Reaction: “Just Another Overrated Emotion”
When an attendee nudged Dhanush to answer, joking that he was “too young” to define love, the actor paused before saying:
“I think it’s just another overrated emotion.”
The comment drew immediate reactions—audible gasps and murmurs—from those present at the event. Kriti Sanon light-heartedly responded that Dhanush’s character in the film, Shankar, would not agree with him, to which he smiled and reiterated, “I already said I’m nothing like Shankar.”
Context: His Separation and Divorce
Dhanush’s candid answer comes nearly a year after his divorce from Aishwarya Rajinikanth, marking the end of their 20-year marriage.
Dhanush and Aishwarya married on November 18, 2004, and share two sons, Yatra (born 2006) and Linga (born 2010).
After weeks of speculation, the couple announced their separation on January 14, 2022, explaining:
“18 years of togetherness—as friends, as a couple, as parents, and as well-wishers to each other. The journey has been of growth, understanding, adjusting and adapting. Today, we stand at a place where our paths separate.”
Their divorce was finalised on November 27, 2024.
