The prime accused in a gruesome triple murder case in Gariapali village under Kundheigola police station limits in Deogarh district died late Saturday night after consuming poison.
On March 11, accused Ramesh Garia (52) bludgeoned his wife, Gul Garia, daughter-in-law, Lipi, and four-year-old granddaughter, Ishani, to death with a hammer following a heated domestic argument. The victims suffered fatal head injuries and died instantly.
After committing the crime, Ramesh fled the scene. On March 13, villagers spotted him climbing a water tank near Gariapali. In a desperate move, he consumed poison before police, fire personnel, and locals managed to rescue him.
Authorities rushed him to Kundheigola Hospital for immediate treatment. Doctors later transferred him to Deogarh District Headquarters Hospital. As his condition worsened, he was shifted to VIMSAR, Burla, and admitted to the ICU. Despite medical intervention, he succumbed to poison-related complications late at night.
The triple murder shocked the district, drawing widespread condemnation. Police confirmed that investigations into the case continue, even after the death of the accused.
