The cold wave conditions in Odisha have eased slightly due to the influence of a western disturbance, but dense fog has emerged as a major weather challenge, disrupting daily life across multiple parts of the state.
Early on Wednesday morning, thick fog blanketed several districts, significantly reducing visibility to just a few metres in many areas. The low visibility affected road traffic and routine activities, particularly during peak commuting hours, as motorists navigated cautiously through fog-covered roads.
Puri Witnesses Rare Fog-Covered
The coastal town of Puri experienced an unusual and striking weather phenomenon as dense fog completely enveloped the holy city. The iconic Shree Jagannath Temple was almost entirely obscured, with the temple spire and the sacred Neelachakra flag atop the Badadeula remaining invisible for a considerable period.
Residents and visitors described the scene as rare and surreal, as the entire temple complex disappeared under a thick blanket of fog, creating a visually dramatic atmosphere across the pilgrim town.
Weather Conditions Behind the Fog
Weather experts explained that while minimum temperatures have risen marginally due to the western disturbance, high moisture levels combined with calm wind conditions are contributing to the formation of dense fog during early morning hours.
Meteorological officials indicated that similar foggy conditions may persist in parts of Odisha over the next few days, especially during the early morning and late-night periods.
Administration Issues Travel Advisory
In view of reduced visibility and potential safety risks, the state administration has advised residents to remain cautious while travelling during early morning hours. Commuters have been urged to follow traffic advisories strictly, as poor visibility increases the likelihood of road accidents.
Authorities also requested motorists to use fog lights where available and avoid unnecessary travel during low-visibility periods.
