The safety of women and children in the state is increasingly at risk, with daily reports of rape and sexual assault on the rise. Alarmingly, despite the BJP government being in power for 14 months, the crucial positions of Chairperson of the State Women’s Commission and Chairperson of the Child Protection Commission remain unfilled.

In response to this negligence, the Biju Mahila Janata Dal organised a one-hour silent dharna (sit-in demonstration) in front of the State Women’s Commission office today at 11:00 AM.

When women face any form of violence, the first place they turn to for justice is the Women’s Commission. However, it is deeply disappointing that these key positions for both the Women’s Commission and the Child Protection Commission have not yet been appointed.

The Biju Mahila Janata Dal has warned that if the government does not fill these important posts immediately, they will lock the commission office and escalate their protests. The failure to appoint chairpersons to these commissions is leaving many women and children across the state without justice after experiencing various forms of abuse.

Participants in today’s dharna included former MP Sarmistha Sethi, Mayor Sulochana Das, Deputy Mayor Manjulata Kanhar, Senior General Secretary Lekhasri Samantsinghar, and other leaders.
