Delhi Police has issued a directive to commercial establishments in Aerocity, a bustling hub near Indira Gandhi International Airport, to strengthen public safety and deter criminal activity ahead of Independence Day.

Hotels, guest houses, restaurants, and petrol pumps are now required to install a “sufficient number” of CCTV cameras covering a 50-metre radius outside their premises.

The directive, issued by Assistant Commissioner of Police Vir Krishan Pal Singh from Palam sub-division, mandates that all footage be retained for a minimum of 90 days. This move follows a string of violent incidents, including robbery and assault, reported within high-footfall areas of the capital.

Establishments must keep their surveillance systems operational, promptly report any malfunctions, and monitor live footage for suspicious activity. Managers are instructed to alert police immediately via the control room (112) or the nearest station and share footage upon request. Proper guest entry records and valid IDs are also part of the compliance checklist.

Non-adherence will result in penal action under Section 223(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, aimed at enforcing obedience to public servants’ orders.

Aerocity, known for upscale nightlife and tourist influx, recently made headlines when three intoxicated individuals posed as policemen to rob a security guard. This latest directive hopes to deter such crimes and reinforce law enforcement visibility during the national celebration period.
