Delhi Capitals showcased their dominance in Match 40 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, securing an emphatic 8-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.

Lucknow Super Giants posted 159/6 in 20 overs, courtesy of a fluent knock from Aiden Markram (52 off 33 balls) and a brisk 36-run cameo by Ayush Badoni.

KL Rahul made history by becoming the fastest player to reach 5000 IPL runs. However, LSG lost momentum after a strong start at 87/0, losing 6 wickets for just 72 runs, thanks to Mukesh Kumar’s fiery bowling spell (4/33).

In response, Delhi Capitals chased down the 160-run target in just 17.5 overs, guided by KL Rahul’s composed 57 off 42 balls and a powerful finishing act by Axar Patel (34 off 20 balls). Abishek Porel provided an early punch with a well-crafted 51 off 36 balls before falling to Aiden Markram’s bowling.

Delhi Capitals dominated all phases of the match:

  • Powerplay (Overs 1-6): DC scored 54/1, accelerating their innings after LSG managed 51/0.
  • Middle Overs (Overs 7-15): Controlled aggression saw DC post 73/1, while LSG faltered with 67/4.
  • Death Overs (Overs 16-20): DC finished in style, scoring 34 in just 2.5 overs with a blistering 12 runs per over rate.

This commanding win propelled Delhi Capitals to six victories in eight matches, solidifying their position as serious title contenders for IPL 2025.
