At least four people lost their lives and 14 others were rescued after a four-storey building collapsed in the Mustafabad area of Delhi in the early hours of Saturday. Authorities fear several individuals may still be trapped beneath the rubble.
The collapse occurred around 3:00 AM, prompting an immediate response from emergency teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services, and Delhi Police. Senior police official Sandeep Lamba confirmed that rescue operations are ongoing and said an investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the collapse.
The injured victims were swiftly transported to GTB Hospital for medical treatment.
Rajendra Atwal, Divisional Fire Officer, stated that a distress call was received at approximately 2:50 AM. “When we arrived, the entire building had already crumbled. Rescue operations are being carried out by our teams in coordination with the NDRF,” he said.
The incident took place just hours after heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and thunderstorms swept across parts of Delhi, raising concerns about the impact of adverse weather on structural safety.
This collapse follows another recent incident where a wall of an under-construction building gave way during a severe dust storm in Madhu Vihar, killing one and injuring two.
In a separate event on the same day in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut, five family members died after their house collapsed during a storm, highlighting the broader impact of the region’s extreme weather.
