A four-storey residential building in Delhi’s Janata Mazdoor Colony, Seelampur, came crashing down, claiming two lives and injuring at least eight others.
The incident occurred around 7:00 AM, sending shockwaves through the northeast Delhi locality known as the Welcome area.
The structure collapsed without warning, trapping residents under debris. Local police, fire department, and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel rushed to the spot with seven fire tenders deployed. So far, eight victims have been rescued and hospitalised—seven at JPC Hospital and one infant at GTB Hospital.
Among the injured are men, women, and a 14-month-old child, underscoring the residential nature of the building. The exact number of people trapped remains uncertain, with ongoing rescue efforts and local residents pitching in to remove debris.
Eyewitnesses reported that the building housed approximately 8 to 10 individuals, including multiple children and women. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the collapse, though preliminary observations suggest possible structural instability.
Senior officers are coordinating efforts at the site, and officials have assured a thorough investigation once the rescue operations conclude.
