Deep Depression over BoB intensifies into Cyclone ‘Hamoon’

Cyclone ‘Hamoon’: The Deep Depression over Westcentral Bay of Bengal moved north-northeastwards with a speed of 14 kmph during the past 6 hours, and intensified into a Cyclonic Storm “Hamoon”

The system lay centered at 1730 hours IST of today, the 23rd of October over the same region, near latitude 18.3°N and longitude 87.3°E, about 230 km south-southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 360 km south of Digha (West Bengal) and 510 km south-southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh).

It is likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm over the northwest Bay of Bengal during the next 12 hours. It is very likely to move nearly north-northeastwards and cross the Bangladesh coast between Khepupara and Chittagong around noon of 25th October as a Deep Depression.

In view of rainfall activity over coastal districts of Odisha, harvested paddy crops (early to medium duration variety) and vegetables may be kept in a safe place

Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha coast and Westcentral & North Bay of Bengal till 25th October.
