Police recovered the body of a man from a pond in Balumunda village under Bangomunda police station in Bolangir district.
The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Keshari Bag of Turekela village.
Reports said Bag had been living in Belpada village after marrying a woman from Balumunda, leaving behind his first wife and two children in Turekela. He worked as a driver for Tarun Meher of Balumunda but had not reported for duty for the past two days.
On Friday morning, locals spotted his body floating in a pond at Balumunda and informed police. Officers rushed to the spot and recovered the body. Witnesses noted multiple injuries on the body, raising suspicion of foul play.
Family members alleged that Bag was murdered and his body was dumped in the pond. Police have registered a case and begun an investigation. Kantabanji SDPO Laxmi Narayan Marandi, along with officers from Muribahal and Bangomunda police stations, reached the site to supervise the probe.
Investigators are examining Bag’s recent movements and personal relationships. They are also questioning associates to determine whether disputes or enmity led to the incident. The body has been sent for a post-mortem to establish the exact cause of death.
