Devotees visiting the sacred Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri will have restricted access today due to the observance of the revered Banakalagi ritual.
The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has announced that general darshan will be suspended for five hours, specifically from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM, following the conclusion of the second Bhoga Mandap ritual.
Today, due to the Jyeshtha Shukla Pratipada tithi, the sacred Banakalagi ritual of Lord Jagannath and the other deities will be performed at the Jagannath Temple.
The Banakalagi ritual is a significant tradition in which priests apply fresh paint to the idols of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra to restore their divine appearance. Since this ceremony occurs behind closed doors, devotees will be temporarily barred from darshan during this time.
Temple authorities encourage visitors to plan their visit accordingly and to respect the sacred customs of the temple. Darshan will resume after 11:00 PM once the rituals are completed.
