Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, has won his first Grammy Award at the age of 90 for his audiobook Meditations: The Reflections of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The Dalai Lama received the Grammy in the category of Best Audio Book, Narration, and Storytelling Recording. This marks the first time a Tibetan Buddhist leader has been honoured with the award.
In a statement, the Dalai Lama expressed gratitude and humility, calling the recognition a symbol of shared universal responsibility. He emphasised peace, compassion, care for the environment, and the oneness of humanity as essential for collective well-being.
Released on August 29, 2025, the audiobook features 10 tracks blending his reflections on peace and compassion with music composed by Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. Contributions from artists like Maggie Rogers and Rufus Wainwright enrich the production.
The Dalai Lama’s audiobook triumphed over works by Kathy Garver, Trevor Noah, Ketanji Brown Jackson, and Fab Morvan. Past winners in similar categories include Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, and Steve Jobs, highlighting how influential figures outside entertainment have also been recognised.
