Bhubaneswar: Amid the short supply of vaccine from the Centre, Odisha’s four districts have geared up for free COVID-19 vaccination for 18 years plus group.
These districts are Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Deogarh and Nayagarh. The drive will continue from Monday onwards.
According to state government sources, all beneficiaries between the age group 18 and 45 will be administered the first dose of Covishield as part of the Phase III vaccination strategy.
“Beneficiaries will receive the vaccine in a symbolic expansion of the drive in these districts’ urban areas in view of the surging Covid cases. The vaccine will be used in Municipal Corporation limits of these districts for which slots will be opened from Sunday 6 PM on CoWIN for sessions to be held from Monday,” an official said.
“To speed up the vaccination drive and decongest existing inoculation centres, the state government has launched the vaccination drives for 18 years plus group in various districts. Residents in the 18-44 years age group are being vaccinated at government centres between 8 AM to 1 PM in these districts while those above 45 years have been slotted between 3 PM and 6 PM,” the official added.
