Police recovered the dead bodies of a couple hanging from a tree under the Saintala police limits in Bolangir district on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Akash Dharua (25) and his wife Mahima Dharua (22). Both hailed from Keomal village under Jurabandh panchayat.
Under the supervision of Saintala IIC Susanta Badhei, the police team, including second officer Alok Bhoi, Goindi Khan, Lachindra Chalan, and Tikrapara Fandi officer Gopal Kumuda, arrived at the scene to investigate the incident.
Later, the bodies of the couple were recovered from a tree in the presence of a Magistrate and Saintala Tehsildar Ashish Ekka. In this regard, a case of unnatural death has been registered at the Saintala police station under case number 01/25. The bodies have been sent to Patnagarh Hospital for an autopsy.
It has been reported that the young man, Akash, from Keomal village was in love with a young woman named Mahima from Chudapali village in Patnagarh. They had been married for the past three months, but frequent domestic disputes led to differences between them, as noted by Mahima’s uncle, Laab Dharua, during police questioning.
According to reports, the couple committed suicide by hanging themselves with a blanket and a scarf from a mango tree located 2 kilometres from their home. The exact reason for their suicide is still under investigation.
