Odisha Assembly Vote Rigging

The Congress party plans to raise serious questions in the Odisha Legislative Assembly about how the state government allegedly won the Nuapada seat through vote rigging. They will also stir up a storm in the House, accusing the government of becoming the “leader of sand thieves.” This was announced by Congress Legislative Party leader Ramchandra Kadam following a meeting of the party’s MLAs.

The meeting took place on Wednesday in the Congress Legislative Party leader’s chamber within the assembly premises. After the session, Kadam stated that the state government has yet to make the Planning Board fully operational, yet it continues to announce scheme after scheme. He questioned whose interests these schemes serve, alleging that just as the previous government created schemes for scams, the BJP-led government is following the same path. Congress intends to corner the government on these issues in the assembly.

Kadam further emphasised that the party will create an uproar over the alleged vote theft in Nuapada and the government’s role in sand smuggling. Additionally, they will demand the implementation of the PESA (Panchayats Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act to protect tribal interests, the formation of a House committee for women’s safety, and holding the government accountable for the deteriorating law and order situation.

Prominent attendees at the meeting included Congress MLAs Sofia Firdosh, Mangu Khil, and Dr. C Rajan Ekka, among others.
