Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee announced its support for the statewide bandh called by Navnirman Krushak Sangathan on January 28.
PCC President Bhakta Charan Das confirmed the decision, stating that the party stands with the issues raised by the farmers’ body.
The bandh call focuses on several pressing concerns. Farmers across the state face mismanagement in paddy procurement. Citizens complain about excessive fines linked to vehicle pollution certificates. Rising electricity tariffs and alleged arbitrary decisions by OERC and Tata Power have also triggered widespread discontent. In addition, the withdrawal of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme has drawn sharp criticism.
Congress leaders highlighted that the party has already been organising protests across Odisha on these issues. By supporting the bandh, PCC aims to amplify the voice of the people and demand accountability from the government.
Das emphasised that all district Congress committees will actively support the bandh. PCC’s media department confirmed that instructions have been issued to ensure participation across the state.
The Odisha bandh on January 28 is expected to witness a significant public response, with Congress joining hands with farmers’ organisations to press for solutions to long-standing grievances.
