Bhubaneswar: Student Union elections might get a revival in the state, as suggested by Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj’s remarks to the press on Thursday.
The Higher Education Minister said that there is a possibility for restarting Student Union elections and discussions are underway. The government will consider the positive impact on the student community before making any decisions. The minister acknowledged the legitimacy of the student unions’ demands to hold elections and assured that the government would make the appropriate decision.
Since 2017, student campus elections have been suspended in the state due to concerns such as the Corona pandemic and campus violence.
Various student unions have repeatedly staged protests demanding the resumption of campus elections but to no avail. However, there is speculation that with the new government in power, the Student Union elections may resume.
