Cold weather conditions across Odisha are expected to intensify after Christmas, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting a fresh and stronger spell of cold from December 25 onwards.
According to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, the cold wave is likely to strengthen due to an increased flow of dry and cold north-westerly winds over the state. Weather experts also cited the weakening and departure of a western disturbance as a key factor that may lead to a further drop in night temperatures across several districts.
Dense Fog Likely to Continue
Dense fog continues to affect multiple parts of Odisha, particularly during late night and early morning hours. Meteorological officials cautioned that fog conditions could worsen in the coming days due to enhanced moisture at lower atmospheric levels, potentially reducing visibility in many areas.
Residents have been advised to exercise caution, especially while travelling during early morning hours, as foggy conditions may disrupt road and rail movement.
IMD Warns of Sharp Temperature Fall
IMD data indicates that several regions in Odisha have already recorded season’s lowest temperatures multiple times this winter. Meteorologists said the sharp fall observed in early December was in line with earlier forecasts, and a similar trend is expected to repeat after December 25.
While temperatures are expected to begin declining gradually from Monday, some areas may experience a sudden drop of up to seven degrees Celsius, intensifying cold wave conditions across the state.
Weather officials said they are closely monitoring the situation and will issue updates if conditions worsen further.
