The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) announced an innovative student engagement programme titled “A Day with the Commissioner.”
The initiative nurtures young minds, inspires future leaders, and provides direct exposure to urban governance.
Under this programme, one selected student will spend an entire working day with Municipal Commissioner Ms. Kirandeep Kaur Sahota, IAS. The student will join review meetings, visit sanitation and waste management facilities, and learn how officials take and implement policy decisions.
Eligibility and Selection
The programme invites Class IX and X students from government, private, and aided schools within CMC’s jurisdiction. Interested students must apply through a Google Form available on the official CMC website.
The selection process combines academics and extracurricular achievements:
- Written Test (50 marks): Students choose one essay topic out of five and write in Odia (800–1000 words). They upload the essay in PDF format.
- Extracurricular Activities (50 marks): Students earn marks across 10 categories, including NCC, Scouts & Guides, NSS, social awareness, sports, science projects, cultural activities, digital awareness, disaster management, cleanliness drives, voter and traffic awareness, and leadership roles. They upload certificates to support their achievements.
Mentorship and Guidance
During the day, Ms. Sahota will personally interact with the student. She will share guidance on civil services preparation, leadership, discipline, and public service. Moreover, she will motivate the student to dream big, embrace civic responsibility, and consider public service as a meaningful career path.
CMC officials stated that they will announce application dates and timelines soon on the corporation’s official website and social media platforms.
