Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today laid the foundation stone for the first phase of the Godabarish Mishra Model Primary School (GMAPV) scheme. The flagship initiative aims to transform primary education across Odisha.

The scheme covers every gram panchayat with quality primary education. In its initial rollout, the government began construction of more than 500 schools, marking the BJP government’s first anniversary in the state. The plan aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) and introduces digital classrooms, STEM learning, sports facilities, and a strong focus on foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN).

At the ceremony, the Chief Minister said, “This scheme, named after Godabarish Mishra, will revolutionise rural education in Odisha. We aim to establish one model school in each gram panchayat. In the first phase, we will build 835 schools, followed by 2,200 in the next phase, with an investment of nearly ₹12,000 crore. We will also provide free transport facilities for children in remote areas.”

Each model school will enrol at least 100 students, occupy more than two acres of land, and offer classes from pre-primary to Class VIII. The initiative bridges the gap between rural and urban education.

School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond said these schools will set new benchmarks in Odisha’s education system. He highlighted modern teaching methods, community participation, and holistic development of children.

Experts believe the scheme will position Odisha as a leader in education. The government plans to convert 6,800 schools across 6,794 gram panchayats into model institutions over the next few years.

The Godabarish Mishra Model Primary School scheme empowers Odisha’s youth with advanced education and marks a milestone in the state’s journey toward educational excellence.
